THE BEACH IS MY HAPPY PLACE.
I’ve been going to the Jersey shore with my family since I was a little girl. And even though I’ve lived in California now for almost 30 years, I still get the urge every summer to return to the vacation haunts of my youth. Luckily, California has no shortage of great beaches that allow me to scratch that itch.
For this summer issue, we decided to show you a couple of fabulous West Coast beach houses. One, located in Cambria on California’s Central Coast, is light, bright and cozy—a look I can only describe as happy. The other, on Puget Sound in Washington state, is sleek, cool and modern. The owner (a former Sacramentan) bought and renovated it with a mind toward flipping it, but he found he simply couldn’t part with it. Even though Sacramento is decidedly landlocked, we think every house should have a little bit of beach style.
Also in this issue of Sacramento Home, blogger Alicia Lund and chef Kevin O’Connor show how to host a fuss-free dinner party. We hope it will inspire you to do some summer entertaining of your own.
