WHEN SACRAMENTO ARTIST LAURIE WINTHERS moved to Pajaro Dunes a few years ago, she found a unique way to market her colorful California seascapes: via national catalog retailer Serena & Lily. While she’s represented by well-known California art galleries (Elliott Fouts in Sacramento, Nancy Dodds in Carmel), Serena & Lily has introduced her to a much wider audience. “I’ve had paintings go as far as Florida, Texas and Nantucket,” says Winthers, who works in acrylic on canvas or board. “It’s people I never would have reached in a brick-and-mortar gallery.” Her ethereal, contemporary paintings are based on the view from a big picture window in her beach house. “The view is directly out to the ocean,” she says. “From my window, I can see Monterey and Pacific Grove to the left.” serenaandlily.com—Marybeth Bizjak
